Once upon a time in China..

I've been wanting to draw China with Journey to the West for a long time now.^^



Random note: I have a HUUGGEEEE liking for Monkey King. To the point that I dislike any version of him that is not a badass. Which is why I hate Kazuya Minekura's Saiyuki.

The Great Sage Equal to Heaven is a not a little cute boy who likes to eat baos. This is the dude who took on Heaven's Armies and fought all of them to a standstill by himself (and his clones). The standoff was so bad, they had to request for Buddha's help to take him down.

Srsly he was one bad mofo of a monkey.

Not a cute boy who lost his fuggin memories. And not fuggin emo either. Bleh.

JOURNEY TO THE WEST! :heart: (was waiting for someone to do this one!)
My daddy used to sit me and my sis down to tell me this story. Much like China there~
(oh god, I can so relate with the Saiyuki disliking; even little things like that bug the fuck out of me too) But this fanart is really lovely. It's so nice seeing the Asians together like a family~

it's a timeless story to share with anyone :D

I really want to do more arts with China during his dynastic days... But the only one I'm most comfortable is Journey to The West. Haven't read the other classics such as Water Margin lol

(there's plenty of bad vers aside from Saiyuki. The most recent one is a dating sim game where all of them have turned into pretty men you can date orz)

Haha, my dad was chiding me just yesterday for not having read Water Margin. :XD:
Romance of the Three Kingdoms was pretty much the only other classic I'd read when it comes to Chinese lit. Please do draw some more dynasty!China :heart: :giggle:

I need to actually find a translated copy of that one of these days...I've heard quite a bit about it, of course.

Nice work! I love the colors and the swirly cloud-effects especially. And the other nation's expressions are adorable, 'specially Korea's. :aww:

ohgod. This is so badass and awesome and just brings back memories. I remember when my grandma would pop the original Journey into the West into the VCR and I would rush to her room just to watch it. And whenever the ones starring Dicky would air on TV, I'd watch it with her too. God, I feel like the Korea in this picture just thinking about all this.

BTW I HEARD THEY'RE RESHOOTING JOURNEY TO THE WEST AGAIN IN 2009/2010.
